According to data published by Elsevier in 2019, readers accessed JATM’s hosted papers 517,524 times (The link has now gone dead-we wish we had done a screen capture now). Although we did not go to every paper and check the fee to view every paper in 2019, the ones we did review returned a price of $35.95 each, which is the same as in April 2021 (This is the paywall method as opposed to the OA method). After punching these numbers into a smartphone calculator, a whopping $18,604,988 came up. As there is institutional access plans, this number is not totally accurate, yet it goes a long way in explaining the big business aspect of academic publishing and how Elsevier’s income in 2019 was reported at $3.414 billion [141]. Anyway, if you have a paper about aviation transport their author guidelines are very detailed. Paper formatting and references are pretty much up to the author, as they will edit the paper to JATM’s style if accepted later on.
